On Friday (Sept 30), Saturday (Oct 1) and Sunday (Oct 2), 13 Sunshine Coast Table Tennis Club members, plus 4 from Brisbane, plus 1 from Bundie, plus 1 from Byron Bay and 1 from Noosa attended a Tops and Level 1 Coaching Course run by Table Tennis Queensland. The course was run by Patrick Wuertz from TT Qld. Patrick showed himself to be an excellent coach and had high expectations from the participants. An internet search certainly showed that he is an accomplished player. Among the info I found was that he won the 2015 WA Open, has played for Germany, and I believe he is the top ranked Queenslander at the moment.
While it was a very demanding weekend, I believe that all the participants found it very rewarding and practical and our club should gain from the skills gained by these players. Congratulations to club president, Michael Wilson, for having the vision to organise the weekend and to club secretary, Heather Dunlevie, and others who helped to organise.
The Sunshine Coast Club members who participated were:
Jerome Hawtin, Greg Williams, Heather Dunlevie, Luke Thompson, Jayde Treloar, Russell Treloar, Ken Hay, Adam Wood, Michael Wilson, Martin Tribe, Dan Ettel, Gary Kiorgaard (Tops component only), Tony Greatrex (Tops component only).
It is especially pleasing in terms of the clubs future to note that 3 of the participants are from our very promising Junior ranks ie Luke, Jayde and Dan.
