Plenty of Surprise Results in 1st Week of New Season

Full results will be published in the near future but I can tell you that there were heaps of surprise results in the first week of the 2017 Summer Fixtures last Tuesday.

The much anticipated match-up between new young-gun, Luke Thomson, and the master ,Paul Green, who is back from a short break showed that the master is not yet ready to pass over the throne. Paul won in straight sets 11-9, 11-5, 11-4. Though it might have been different if Luke had won the first tight game.

Ian Oakley is back to playing with his right hand and wasted no time getting back to his old form winning 2 of his 4 matches. Form player for the night was Adam wood winning 4 from 4.

But it was in Division 2 that the upsets were plentiful. On the positive side of the ledger was Mike Rodgers accounting for Jerome Hawtin and Russell Treloar, John Dale who beat Ian Thomas, Kathy Oakley and Gary Petterson, and most impressively Nathan Thomas with big wins over Judy Chin, Jenny Wyatt and Desley Payne.

Surprise losers included last season's revelation, Linda Yapp, who lost to John Ettel and Gordon Holden.

The results in Division 2 were so unpredictable I think I would have been lucky to predict half the results.

Don't forget that it is that time of the year that we pay our yearly membership. Also practice is definitely on at Maroochydore next Thursday.

Congratulations to the new executive which is pretty similar to the old one that did a great job last year:-

President - Michael Wilso

V-President - Greg Williams

Secretary - Heather Dunlevie

Treasurer - Jim Kyle

Special mention and thanks to outgoing Treasurer, Adam Wood, who is retiring after 3 years great service. Apparently there is a new arrival due around June. So congratulations and best wishes for that as well. Adam's wife, Renee, also deserves mention as the brains behind the Treasury-ship.

The President's Trophy this year went to Secretary, Heather Dunlevie, who truly keeps the Club going in a straight line and is the solid rock of the club. Well done and well deserved Heather.
