It was a night for the young and the ladies at the finals of the 2017 Summer Season held last night at Meridan. In Division One, the young guns of Luke Thomson and Dan Ettel (Maroochydore) prevailed over the experience of Buderim (Adam Wood and Ian Oakley). As expected, the result all hinged on the doubles. Adam and Ian looked to have it in the bag going to a 2 nil lead but Luke and Dan hung in to win the next 2 games. The final game was a cliffhanger with the young brigade getting there 13-11.
If there was any satisfaction for Adam Wood on the night it was in inflicting the only defeat for top ranked Paul Green in the earlier played semi. Adam won 11-9 in the 5th.
In Division 2, nothing was going to stop the sentimental favourites, Woombye (Linda Yapp, Judy Chin, Desley Payne and Jenny Wyatt), who beat minor premiers, Mountain Creek (Gordon Holden, Steve Rowson, Nathan Thomas and Greg Williams), 7/22 to 4/16. The vital statistic on the scoresheet was that the girls won all 3 doubles on the night. The other interesting statistic is that over half of the matches (6 of 11) went to 5 games with the girls winning EVERY one of these. This epitomised the determination of the Woombye team.
Next season starts on April 18 with several top class returning players and some new exciting new players.
