Marathon Match and 15 minutes of fame

In one of the longest matches that I have witnessed at the club, Clay Westward defeated John Bongertman 22-20 in the 5th on Tuesday night. Well done to Clay but it was the never-say-die attitude of John that really impressed me. As John would admit, he is one of the more senior members of our club but he is also one of the most competitive (and friendly). Clay won 5-11, 11-2, 9-11, 11-7, 22-20. A total of 109 points in the match.

Everyone should enjoy their 15 minutes of fame (Andy Warhol) when they get it. The leading ranked players in Division 1 and Division 2 from last week were Seng Joo Keng and Linda Yapp respectively. They had their “15 minutes of fame” but both have been dethroned. After last weeks fixtures, Adam Wood is the new leader of Div 1 and Gary Pettersen of Div 2. Gary’s position is a bit surprising as he is on the second line. I don’t think he will be there next season.

It is a long season and I am sure the leads will swap several times before the end.

Reminding players that there are no fixtures at Meridan next Tuesday (May 9) due to exams in the hall. No decision has been made re playing this lost week.
