VINCENT SHOWS HIS CLASS

After a fortnight break, fixtures resumed last Tuesday. Note that the round scheduled for the previous Tuesday (May 9) will not be played as it is too difficult to fit into calendar.

Feature of last week’s fixtures was the appearance of Vincent Pons in fixtures for the first time. Vincent, a past junior champion of France, took Jayde Treloar’s place in the Jaguars and showed his class and potential with 4 out of 4 wins including convincing wins over both Jerrod and Luke Thomson. Jerrod did manage to get a game giving some hope to others. Note that Vincent’s wins will not count as he is not an eligible sub for Jayde.

We are all hoping to see Vincent’s continued involvement in the club as a player of his standard can only be an asset for the club.

15 minutes of fame” continues to be the theme for the season with Nathan Thomas becoming the 3rd player to head the Div 2 rankings this season. He took over from Gary Petterson who took the reins from Linda Yapp. And the season is only 4 weeks old.

One thing I have noticed since writing up the results is that rankings are only a guide and any player can defeat any other player on a night. And this is what makes it entertaining. It all gets down to styles of play and confidence on the night. Another observation is that doubles results have a huge impact on the overall results.

A reminder to players that Thursday night practice at Maroochydore SHS is on next Week (May 25) but will not be on June 1 , June 8, and June 22). Players are encouraged to make the short scenic trip up to Maleny on these Thursdays. Play starts in Maleny at the earlier time of 6pm.

PS. Thanks very much to Greg Briggs who has been generously fixing a mounting toll of broken dividers. Such help definitely makes our dollar go further.
