Players of the Week - week 6

PLAYER OF WEEK - Division 1

The accomplished and experienced members of the club will "never say die" if they are in any match, but when they are up against a young player on the way up, they usually don't begrudge losing as they realise these players are the future.

The player of the week is Jayde Treloar, a player definitely on the way up. Last Tuesday she started the night by almost accounting for 2nd ranked, Seng Joo Keng. Jayde was up 2 games to zero but could not keep the momentum going, eventually going down in 5 sets. For the rest of the night she had wins over the artful Dale Parkes, the attacking Danny Yeung, and most impressively against Jerrod Thomson who captained a Queensland Team at the Australian Vet Titles in WA recently.

This follows a big win for Jayde over the other big young-gun, Dan Ettel, last week.

Incidentally Dan is now in 3rd position on the rankings after big wins over Ken Hay, Ian Oakley and a slightly injured present Club Champion, Adam Wood this week.

PLAYER OF WEEK - Division 2

This week we have joint winners in Division 2.

Firstly Linda Yapp who is the current club's Open Womens Champion having beaten Jan Yu in the final last year. Linda gets the nod for not only being the only unbeaten player after 6 rounds but for the humble and cheerful way she goes about her business. Everyone in the club is aware of Linda's lethal smash. One only has to lift the ball centimeters off the table and, if Linda is in position, she will put it away to end the rally. It is a reflection of the current strength of our club that a player of Linda's class is not playing in Div 1. I would bet on her being back in Division 1 next season.

The second Player of the Week in Division 2 is Liam Reeve. Yes he won it last week as well. But it is not an award where everyone gets a turn. Liam won 3 out of 3 for the second week in a row. He accounted for Adam Fitzsimmons, Greg Williams and Cohen Slaughter who are all in-form players.

Thank you to Russell Treloar who nominated players this week. His nominations confirms my thoughts as I was going for the same players.
