WELCOME TO A NEW YEAR OF TABLE TENNIS

The results of the first week of the 2019 Summer Season are up on the web site finally. I've been renovating our bathroom and the internet has been dropping in and out. They are my excuses for being slack and I'm sticking to them.

I have often said that predicting results in table tennis is not just looking at the rankings. Some of the results of the first round are testament to this. For example Ian Thomas had a big win over David Harkins who has been in Div 1 for the last few seasons. And then along comes our new el presidento, Desley Payne, half an hour late after her plane was delayed and suffering jet lag. She dispatches Ian the giant killer before his ego gets a chance to inflate. Incidentally David finished with a good win over John Ettel to show what he is capable of.

In Div 1, Linda Yapp showed her incredible skills again with straight sets wins over both the accomplished Greg Beattie (subbing for Adam Wood) and Gerrit Fialla in the first round. Linda continued her great night going down to our top ranked player, Paul Green, in a nail biter {9-11 in the 5th}. She must have either run out of steam or succumbed to Patrick Keating's sneaky tricks at the end of the night, going down in 4 to Patrick.

A BIG REMINDER to everyone that we are trialling Friday practice (4pm till 8pm) at Maroochydore. It was on last Friday and will continue for the next 2 Fridays. If players support this, it will become a regular fixture. Open to all. Thank you to Greg williams for organising this innovation. Thursday practice also continues - 7pm till 10.30pm.
